Last Virtual Event of the Summer!

Thank you all for having made the release of my debut novel quite a special moment in time. This Thursday, I have the last virtual event of the summer for The Playwright’s House at the fantastic Politics and Prose Bookstore. I’ll be in conversation with Cuban-American writer Achy Obejas, who has been a huge inspiration and influence for many years. Given everything that’s going in Cuba, this one feel unique and important. Please help share and come talk with us if you’re free ❤🙏🇨🇺

Latinx in Publishing Interview Feature

Very grateful for this really cool interview feature (novel excerpt and Cuba photos included) on The Playwright’s House in Latinx in Publishing!

The Playwright’s House Coming to New Mexico.

I’m so looking forward to the next summer event for The Playwright’s House. I’ll be sharing the virtual stage with the amazing Jenn De Leon and her fantastic essay collection White Space. We’ll read, we’ll converse, we’ll get serious, and we’ll goof around. Come get a dose of Latinx culture with us at the super cool Collected Works Bookstore & Coffeehouse in Santa Fe!

The Massachusetts Review: “We readers spend time in a Havana more familiar to me than that in any other book I’ve read in English.”

There are too many quotable moments to excerpt, but this review of The Playwright’s House in The Massachusetts Review got so much of the book’s intent:

“Suarez’s beautiful debut novel will leave you wanting to live in that world, hoping for a drink with these brothers and sisters, hoping for a better world, and a freer Cuba.”

Virtual Book Tour Returns to West Coast

I’m so excited to be bringing The Playwright’s House virtually to Seattle next week, with two really cool events.

First stop will be at Third Place Books, where I’ll be in conversation with Chaya Bhuvaneswar on Tuesday.

Then, I’ll be doing an event titled “Migratory Politics: The Craft of Cultural Identity” with Kristen Millares Young and Christopher Romaguera at Hugo House on Thursday.

Both events are at 6pm PST/9pm EST. Hope to see you there!

Brookline Booksmith Event w/ Marjan Kamali

After you’ve eaten all the hot dogs and gulped all the beer and almost drunkenly burned yourself with the fireworks this weekend, come see the amazing Marjan Kamali (her latest book, THE STATIONERY SHOP, is an absolute stunner of a novel) and me talk about THE PLAYWRIGHT’S HOUSE virtually at the Brookline Booksmith on Tuesday! I will be dropping by the store next week, so if you order from them, you’ll get a signed copy 🙂

Book Event w/ Laura van den Berg

Hey, Florida friends (and all friends, really), I’m doing this virtual event at Books & Books on Thursday, with the incredible Laura van den Berg (whose books you should be buying, stat). Laura has written about and truly gets Cuba, so I’m super excited for the conversation. Books & Books has a special place in my heart as the first place where I discovered readings and dreamed of one day doing the same. I hope to see you there!

Interview at Fiction Writers Review

GrubStreet instructor and all-around awesome human Tim Weed interviewed me about THE PLAYWRIGHT’S HOUSE for the Fiction Writers Review. Huge thanks to Tim for his generous comments and thoughtful questions 🇨🇺
